How To Wash Your Synthetic Wig

In this video, Danielle takes you through how to wash a synthetic hair wig at home! Your piece should be washed every 7 – 8 wears. In the salon we use shampoo and spray conditioner for synthetic hair, these can be purchased on your next visit to the salon.

What you’ll need

  • Synthetic Hair Shampoo
  • Synthetic Hair Conditioner
  • Mannequin head
  • Soft Towel
  • T-Pins
  • Wide tooth comb

The Process

  1. Gently comb through your wig to remove all knots and tangles.
  2. Attach your wig to the mannequin head using T-pins. Place them through the ear tabs either side of your wig.
  3. Using cold water, saturate your wig.
  4. Using a sponge, apply shampoo in a downward motion to avoid friction.
  5. Rinse using cold water.
  6. Taking a separate sponge, apply conditioner in a smooth downward motion. Comb through with a wide tooth comb.
  7. Rinse well using cold water.
  8. Gently remove the T-pins and place the wig in a towel and roll it. Squeeze gently to remove excess moisture.
  9. Place the wig back onto the mannequin head and replace the T-pins.
  10. Using a wide tooth comb, gently comb the wig into place.
  11. Leave the wig out to dry.
