We’ve been in the hair industry for over a decade. Beverly May Hair is owned and operated by qualified hairdressers with the professional knowledge to transform colours and cuts.
We know alternate hair, and it’s the small touches that make the biggest difference—the perfect shadow rooting, the soft face-framing layers, or the lower density around the hairline and face.
We know that buying your first hairpiece can be stressful, so we are here to help. At Beverly May Hair, we’re absolutely committed to selling only the best quality.
Yes! Matching the colour, adding your own personal touch, and knowing placement and styling will all contribute to a natural, seamless look.
Unfortunately, the challenge of perfectly capturing a hair's exact colour on camera is like chasing rainbows. This is because hair does not have one true colour. It looks different in different lighting, whether it's a wig or natural hair. The colour will always have a slight variance between outdoor and indoor lighting, direct sunlight versus the softer glow of indoors, and there can even be variance between your computer and phone screens. We recommend looking at colours in our product listings as these are taken in front of a large window with natural lighting. Blue light blockers or night mode can also affect the colour on devices, so be sure to turn these off when browsing.
We offer in-person and video consultations to cater to your preferences and convenience.
Face-to-face consultations are available at our centrally-located salon in Prospect, South Australia. Here, you’ll have full access to our range of alternative hair solutions. A small consultation fee of $100 applies for the hour appointment. This fee is redeemable if you purchase within four weeks of the consultation.
Video consultations for online purchases are conducted over Zoom. We charge a $50 fee for a 30-minutes virtual consultation, which is redeemable when proceeding with an alternate hair purchase.

Your lifestyle mainly determines this. We recommend washing your wig or topper every 6–8 wears. This is based on a full day’s wear every day. If it’s only worn for small amounts of time throughout the week, you can extend the timeframe of it needing to be washed. Please note, it’s important to get moisture back into the hair and this is mainly achieved through washing and cleansing the hair.
A hair topper is a crown hair extension that clips onto your own hair. Hair toppers are not recommended for anyone with total hair loss, as the coverage is not comparable to a full wig. Hair toppers can be worn for hair loss or thinning areas, to add volume or length to your hair, or even to cover roots between salon visits.
Hair toppers are attached to the head using pressure-sensitive clips. The clips, which have a comb-like appearance, open and close by pressing on them. They contain “teeth”, which slide into and grip onto your natural hair.
Absolutely! We recommend using a heat protection spray before applying heat-styling tools, such as the Ghost Mist Spray. You can use heatless curling methods, a straightener or a curling wand.
Wigs and toppers are generally very comfortable to wear. In warmer conditions, it might feel slightly warmer on the head, just like a hat. A hair topper, in comparison to a wig, is more lightweight and cooler on the head. Our wigs are designed with materials to be lightweight and breathable, so you remain comfortable and cool.
Toppers and wigs can be expensive for several reasons. Firstly, the materials used to create high-quality alternative hair products, such as human hair and premium synthetic fibres.
Human hair requires a process of ethically sourcing, processing and treating the hair. Meticulous handcrafting is required to achieve natural look and feel. Different lengths and cap constructions can also impact the cost of a wig or topper. The initial outlay might seem like a lot to some, but the quality, longevity and confidence that Beverly May Hair products will give often justifies the investment.
Depending on the style you want to achieve, the topper doesn’t necessarily need to be the same length as your natural hair. However, if the length between the topper and your natural hair is significantly longer or shorter, this may not appear natural because it won't blend as well.
Yes, you can wear a wig or topper every day. Many women wear wigs or toppers as part of their daily routine for various reasons, such as hair loss or simply to change their look.
We do not recommend sleeping in your wig or topper unless your hair is attached with invisible grafting or mesh integration. The clips from toppers can cause tension on your natural hair when sleeping and may do harm. Sleeping with a wig on might cause friction and can decrease the longevity.
Yes, you can. The key is to keep your hair underneath as flat as possible. We recommend braids or tying your hair back if you want to wear a shorter style. If your natural hair is a short bob, you can go longer by wearing a wig stocking under the cap to conceal your hair underneath.
Swimming with a wig or hair topper can damage it due to chemicals in the water and tangling. If you decide to swim with a wig or hair topper, make sure to do so with caution and rinse it thoroughly with clean water afterwards to remove chlorine or salt, and carefully detangle it to prevent matting.
Yes, Beverly May Hair Wigs and Toppers can be coloured. However, improper applications or harsh chemicals will possibly harm them. We only recommend depositing colour into the hair as its already undergone a process and do not recommend lightening any further as this can compromise the hair.
Yes, if you're out and about and caught in the rain, this is totally okay. It could just mean it will need to be restyled once it dries, or if the style has lost its shape, you may need to wash and blow-dry again.
While wigs and toppers do not promote hair growth, they can shield your hair and scalp from UV exposure and help you keep your own hair protected by reducing the need for constant styling.
When worn correctly and cared for, a hair topper will not cause damage to your own natural hair.
We use pressure-sensitive clips to protect your hair from damage. However, when these clips become worn, they can become sharp, and this is when we recommend changing your clips.
